About UNFW

I am a software engineer that is currently getting back into gaming after a long hiatus. I want a space to write about my experiences and hopefully entertain you with my hot takes.

Review Scores

I hate complicated review scores. Whenever I see a 100 point score I don’t think that the reviewer or audience can understand the difference between a 89 or a 90 and often times the article can give a different impression than the summary and score. Therefore, I have devised a simple scale to understand how my scores work:

1 - The worst of the worst, unplayable due to bugs but, even more than that, completely awful to play. There is no joy here and only suffering. A small minority should be here.

2 - Not unplayable but not something I enjoyed. Mechanics or bugs exist that make the game unfun. Very few good ideas implemented.

3 - The Average game. A game that is perfectly competent or has good sides that outweigh the bad sides but ultimately doesn’t stand out in any particular way after a couple of months.

4 - Above Average. A game that you remember for a while and talk about when the genre comes up. Something you’ll replay if your in the mood but won’t go out of your way to replay

5 - The best of the best. Things that you want and are excited to replay and tell other people about.
